Daniells, S.2005, Pistachio and sesame seeds richest source of phytosterol. J. Agricultural and food chemistry. Vol.53..9436-9445.
Another study conducted on men and women of 18 to 81 years old for the purpose of considering the effect of nuts including pistachio, almond, walnut and hazelnut indicates that by daily consumption of 30 to 100 grams of nuts, the amount of bad cholesterol in body is decreased for 9 to 31 percent.

Rainey. C.J.L.A.Nyquist. 1997. Nuts: nutrition and health benefits of daily use. Nutrition Today No.32: 157-16

A study conducted on a 31000-member group indicates that using nuts more than five times a week would significantly decreases the mortality due to heart deficiency and postpones it to five years later in men (Shaker Ardekani, A. 2006. Pistachio and its Role in Humans' Nutrition and Health, the National Pistachio Research Institute). In another study conducted on more than 160000 men and women, it has been observed that using nuts for four to five times a week would decrease the cardiovascular diseases risk for 18 to 51 percent.

Several studies have proven that the folic acid naturally found in food stuff such as nuts may decrease the rate of a material in body called hemosistein (a material containing sulfur produced in body while the protein components are being metabolized) and hence it prevents arteriosclerosis. Scientists believe that this material directly damage the vessels wall and helps the formation of fat deposits. It has been estimated that the increase of the use of daily folic acid for 100 micrograms would decrease the mortality due to coronary heart diseases for 7 percent in men and 5 percent in women (Shaker Ardekani, A. 2006, Pistachio and its Role in Humans' Nutrition and Health, the National Pistachio Research Institute).

- Osteoporosis Prevention

Studies have indicated that nuts such as pistachio, walnut, almond an hazelnut having high amounts of calcium and phosphor not only provides the body's needs, but also have a great role in strengthening the bones and teeth especially in those who do not use milk or other dairy products (Shaker Ardekani, A. 2006, Pistachio and its Role in Humans' Nutrition and Health, the National Pistachio Research Institute).

Vitamin K is a basic co-factor for transformation of glutamic acid into gamma carboxyglutamic acid, and plays a fundamental role in coagulation in case of bleeding.
